Shame: Pastor arrested for stealing cattle

Police on Thursday arrested a pastor accused of stealing two heads of cattle in Pallisa district.

The suspect, identified as Pius Okurut, is also the LC1 vice-chairperson of Akwamor village in Chelekura sub-county.

Following his arrest and detention at Agule Police Station, there were calls to remove him from the local leadership.

Okurut is a pastor at Pentecostal Revival Ministries Church in Ajepet village, Gogonyo sub-county.

Simon Patrick Achelun, the officer-in-charge at Agule Police Station, confirmed his arrest over the theft of cattle.

The two animals are said to belong to Peter Omoko Pateri, a renowned milk seller in the area.

He claimed Okurut stole his cattle to allegedly sell them.

Police's Achelun said on Thursday that "we are organizing the file to forward to Pallisa Central Police Station".

Michael Okello, the parish councilor for Akwamor, said the alleged incident has brought shame to the political and religious leadership in Pallisa.

“We shall now sit to discuss how to remove Okurut from being an LC1 vice-chairperson," he said.

Okello added that cases of theft are on the rise in his parish and that they are working to find a solution to the problem.

His advice to the area people, including leaders: engage in agriculture instead of stealing for survival.
