105 Houses handed over to Tilenga Project Affected Persons

Total Energies Uganda has handed over 105 fully constructed houses to the Tilenga Project Affected Persons(PAP) in Buliisa district.

According to Nampeera Mariam the Deputy General Manager Total Energies Uganda, the houses vary from 2-4 bedrooms and they are fitted with a Kitchen, VIP latrine, a 5000 litre rainwater harvest tank, solar lighting, land scaping & greening of the compound.

Ruth Nankabirwa, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development who presided over the function today urged Ugandans to practice endurance with the Tilenga Project while also acknowledging the significant accomplishments made so far in the country’s oil and gas development.

Minister Nankabirwa informed PAPs that they’re getting the best deals compared to what PAPs in other countries get.

“In terms of livelihood restoration, compensation, and resettlement, the affected persons in Uganda are getting the best compared to what other countries are giving their PAPS,” she said.

“I hope the world is watching what is happening here in Buliisa, Hoima, and Kikuube districts. 205 decent resettlement houses worth US$10 million with land titles have been developed for our people,” Nankabirwa added.

The Woman MP of Buliisa, Norah Bigirwa, also urged the PAPs to be appreciative of their possessions because not everyone is that fortunate.

“You PAPs are extremely fortunate since you are getting new homes with land titles. Even those of us who are not PAPs lack these land titles. We, the Buliisa people, are quite honored by this,” MP Bigirwa said.

According to Emily, one of the Project’s Affected Persons , Total Energies UG has not only built them permanent homes but has also improved their livelihoods by providing them with resources like cassava cuttings, which they planted and received high results from.
