President Museveni Recovering but Still Testing Positive for COVID-19

President Yoweri  Museveni is stable and recovering from COVID-19 which compelled him to go into self-isolation at State Lodge, Nakasero but his COVID-19 status remains positive.  

Museveni tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, three days after returning from the 10-day NRM retreat in Kyankwanzi. 

In a statement issued on Sunday night, Museveni said he “slept well” for ten hours on Saturday, adding, “This time, the dull headache was not there, nor was the mild throbbing (enkuratima) on top of the head (oruhoora-hoore).”

The President also disclosed suffering from “some mild muscle soreness typical of usual flu” on Wednesday which he said “has now gone.” 

He also said the “roughness (obugiimbi) on the throat has gone.”

Museveni said doctors carried out corona tests on Sunday “and they were still positive,” adding, “We shall wait for a few more days and check again.”

The President, who promised to “remain in self-isolation at Nakasero,” advised “all of you to get fully vaccinated against corona and the elderly should get the boosters.”

The President’s statement came just hours after a Twitter account claimed that his health condition had deteriorated.

The State House dismissed the report as false.

Museveni, 78, has maintained a flow of updates about his health condition to avoid speculation.  

On Saturday, State House shared a video of Museveni walking in the compound and reading notes under a tree at Nakasero.

In his self- isolation, Museveni said he had “had time to watch some UBC wealth creation programmes, apparently, captured by the Presidential Press Unit (PPU). They are most pleasing to watch. It seems that Ugandans in the countryside are getting our message of getting out of okukolera ekidda kyoonka (tic me ic keken) – subsistence farming.”
