Uganda to host the 55th African Airlines Association Assembly

Uganda Airlines, the national carrier, will be hosting the 55th African Airlines Association (AFRAA) Annual General Assembly.

The event will take place at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo in Uganda from November 19-21, 2023. It is expected to attract over 500 high-profile delegates from the aviation industry, including chairmen and CEOs from African airlines, representatives from international aviation organizations, civil aviation authorities, airport companies, air navigation service providers, aircraft and engine manufacturers, and component suppliers.

The hosting of this prestigious event is seen as a vote of confidence in Uganda and its efforts to revive the national carrier. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Uganda Airlines has shown firm and visionary leadership in just three years of operationalization.

This event provides a global platform to showcase Uganda’s beauty, culture, food, hospitality, and warmth to the delegates.

The Minister of Works, Gen. Katumba Wamala, expressed his congratulations to Uganda Airlines and highlighted the significance of hosting the AFRAA Annual General Assembly.

He emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation of aviators and the government’s commitment to supporting the airline in ensuring the event’s success.

Jeniffer Bamuturaki, the Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines and head of AFRAA, expressed her commitment to addressing regulatory challenges and promoting increased partnerships and collaboration within the African aviation industry.

She also aims to support sustainable operations of airlines on the continent and advocate for open skies through the Yamoussoukro declarations.

The Annual General Assembly will not only focus on aviation-related topics but also bring together cross-industry players in tourism, regulation, and taxation that impact the aviation industry.

It is expected to be a platform for discussions on important issues such as women’s participation in aviation, youth engagement, sustainability, and more.

Hosting the AFRAA Annual General Assembly provides an opportunity for Uganda to showcase its potential in the aviation sector and promote collaboration within the African aviation community.
