Police hunt for Naggalama teacher over defilement

Naggalama Police division in Mukono district has launched a manhunt for a teacher accused of defiling a 15-year-old.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says Nabalanga Church of Uganda Primary School teacher Aron Nambasa is accused of the aggravated defilement of a pupil. The unsettling incident took place on September 9, 2023, at approximately 5:00 pm, leaving a young girl traumatised and a community in shock, according to Enanga.

''Details surrounding the case paint a disturbing picture of betrayal and violation of trust. According to the information gathered, the suspect located the victim at her brother's shop at Kabawala trading centre around 4:00 pm. Seemingly innocently, he ordered a glass of passion fruit juice priced at Ugx 500, handing the young girl a note of shillings 2,000 and instructing her to deliver the change to his residence," Enanga said.

Enanga says upon her return with the change, the suspect forcibly pulled the victim inside his house and subjected her to a horrifying act of sexual violence. "After the ordeal, he callously instructed the victim to leave his home. Shaken and traumatised, the young girl returned to her elder brother and bravely shared the harrowing experience.

Her brother wasted no time and reported the matter to the area LCI chairperson and the Police," Enanga said. As the investigation unfolds, Nambasa, the alleged perpetrator, remains at large. The incident occurred in Kabawala village, Nabalanga Parish, Nabbale sub-county, within the jurisdiction of Mukono district, according to Enanga.

He says law enforcement agencies have vehemently condemned such egregious acts of misconduct, particularly when perpetrated by individuals in positions of authority, like teachers. This incident highlights the grave risks that schoolgirls may face from individuals they should look up to as role models and educators.

In the wake of this alarming case, parents are urged to equip their children with essential skills, including assertiveness and the ability to seek help when faced with uncomfortable situations. Enanga was on Monday speaking during the weekly joint security briefing at Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.
