UPDF releases names of candidates shortlisted for recruitment

Following a successful exercise of submission of applications by candidates aspiring to join the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), the UPDF has released the lists of those shortlisted.

Col Deo Akiiki the UPDF Deputy Spokesperson said on Monday, June 17, 2024, that the lists are ready for viewing online and at the offices of the RCCs and RDCs across the regions.

The lists are accessible on  https://www.updf.go.ug/careers/

The recruits cited include a sample of the following numbers from the districts; Moroto (48), Oyam (140), Kasese (264),  Tororo (116), Masaka District (8), Masaka City (47), Nakawa Division (Kampala City (92), Kampala Central, Kampala City (36), Kitgum (62).

“The candidates are reminded that the recruitment exercise will begin on the 1st day of July 2024 and end on the 14th day of July 2024 at different recruitment centres as earlier published. The ministry and indeed the UPDF family wish all the candidates success,” Akiiki said.

The procedure for the UPDF recruitment exercise was as follows; aspiring candidates applying to join the regular force get recommendations from LCI, LCII, LCIII, GISO and DISO.

Thereafter, they submit their application forms to the office of RDC where they are registered and await collection by the UPDF collection teams that submit them to the office of Joint Staff Human Resource Management which then causes a shortlist.

The list of successful applicants is then published/displayed on the district/city notice boards informing the shortlisted applicants to appear at designated recruitment centres for the final interviews.

The recruitment was conducted using the projected population figures of each district/city of Uganda that form the basis of recruitment quotas.

The recruitment was based on one being a citizen of Uganda in possession of an original national identity card, fit and ready to undergo medical and body fitness tests, be adult male or female from 18–22 years, formal education strictly of S.4 (UCE) who finished in the year 2020–2023 and must have passed English and Mathematics.

Also, application letters duly signed by LCI, LCII and LCIII chairpersons, GISO or DISO and RDC were a must. Aspirants were required to be residents of the area, disciplined and with no criminal record.
