Over 200 opposition youths convert to the NRM Party

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has received over 200 converts who denounced the National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP) and other opposition parties to join the ruling NRM.

Speaking to the converts at the party head offices in Kampala on Wednesday afternoon, Rt Hon. Todwong attributed the ever-growing number of people joining the NRM party to the long track record of service delivery to the people. “Over the years, we have seen people crossing to NRM because they have realized that other parties are empty and have nothing to offer. This migration reflects a strong endorsement of the NRM’s achievements in governance, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development and social programs," Todwong said.

Todwong explained that the party's success in areas such as Peace, Security, and Development has resonated with many Ugandans. He noted that people appreciate the improvement of the road network and electricity as well as poverty reduction programs, which directly impact their daily lives. "This connection has made the NRM even more appealing to those who want to see more progress," he explained.

The Director of Mobilization, Recruitment, and Cadre Development, Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, delivering her address, noted a significant increase in youth support. She expressed hope that the growing appeal of the youth towards the NRM will enable the party to claim the 2026 general elections with a landslide.

“If you look back at the 2021 elections, many people were even afraid to wear a yellow t-shirt and walk through the streets of Kampala. But today, if we can recruit some of these young people who are openly and willingly joining the NRM, it gives us great hope that 2026 won't be as difficult as 2021,” she said.

Hon. Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, Director of Communications and Publicity, reinforced the party's commitment to inclusivity. He emphasized the importance of working with all Ugandans, regardless of their background. He said: “The NRM stands for unity and inclusiveness. We don’t discriminate based on tribe, religion, or disability." This focus on unity is a key factor that separates the NRM from other political groups, Mr Dombo said.

Hajjat Medina Naham, the Director of Finance and Administration, thanked the new members for joining the mighty party and explained that the NRM’s mission is to transform Uganda. She noted that the party’s roots lie in its commitment to addressing the country’s challenges. She also said the new members would be inducted on the NRM’s goals and values to help them understand the party’s vision.

The converts were from the districts of Mubende, Luuka, and Packwach as well as Rubaga Division in Kampala.
