US Africa Command, ATMIS Force Commanders hold talks in Mogadishu




The African Transition Mission in Somalia  (ATMIS) Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, together with senior ATMIS military officials on Tuesday met with Gen. Michael Langley, the Commander of US Africa Command.


According to a statement released by  ATMIS, the meeting took place at the ATMIS  Force headquarters  in Mogadishu Somalia whereby discussions centred on areas of mutual collaboration between the two forced. 




Gen. Langley commended ATMIS for the contributions to stabilising Somalia. 

The ATMIS Force, composed of soldiers from several African nations, has been at the forefront of the fight against extremism in Somalia. It has played a crucial role in restoring a degree of stability to the country. Commending these efforts, Gen. Langley highlighted the essential role of the ATMIS Force in enhancing security and working towards long-term peace in Somalia.

He is prioritizing face-to-face engagement to build US relationships and support partners in Africa.


Langley also met with Somalia  President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Somalia Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, senior State Department and defense officials to discuss shared priorities and operations, such as the  shared fight against al Shabaab.

U.S. Africa Command, with partners, counters transnational threats and malign actors, strengthens security forces, and responds to crises in order to advance U.S. national interests and promote regional security, stability, and prosperity.
