Horror: Yumbe woman cooks her own baby after "feeling like eating meat"

A woman who allegedly killed and cooked her baby has been charged with murder and remanded to Yumbe District Prison in northern Uganda.

Police identified the suspect as Nadio Manjubo, a 24-year-old resident of Chamanikua village, Yayari parish, Lovi sub-county in Yumbe district.

The victim, Angelo Buga, was only four months old.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Manjubo was charged by the territorial Police in North West Nile region and Yumbe district and she was remanded last Friday.

Enanga said the suspect committed the "horrific murder by hacking into pieces of her four-month-old son" last Wednesday at around 4pm.

She allegedly stuffed the body pieces in a saucepan and boiled them, "claiming she felt like eating meat", according to Police.

The accused appeared before a court in Yumbe court and was remanded to Yumbe District Prison for murder.

Enanga said the crime scene was "so disturbing" and that it "shows how some parents have lost a sense of humanity and love for their children".

"We urge all parents in challenging domestic settings to always seek help from the Child and Family Protection Unit, the nearest Police station or other child rights defender," he urged.

"It is painful that the four-month-old son died [in] the hands of a mother who was supposed to keep him safe."
