Mukono director held over defiling 4 girls in his school

Police in the Kampala Metropolitan Area are holding a school director over allegedly defiling children under his charge.

Sengoba Samuel of Samuel Kids Academy, Kakinzi, was arrested last week over sexually abusing pupils at the boarding section of the school.

“When we got this intelligence information, we managed to subject the girls who are in the boarding section to medical examination,” Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said, adding that the girls are aged between 15 and 17.

“Out of the girls under the boarding section, four girls were found to have been sexually assaulted,” he said.

Enanga said the police had charged the suspect last Friday at Naggalama Court in Mukono on two counts of aggravated defilement.

He added that although the other two victims were also found to have been sexually assaulted, they were unco-operative with the Police.

“We have called their parents and counsellors so we can prevail over them, and ensure that the perpetrators of sexual violence are charged,” he said.

Enanga made the revelation while speaking during the weekly security briefing on Monday at the Uganda Police headquarters, Naguru in Kampala.

During the same event, he revealed that another arrest had been made in Bunyangabu over the same crime and that it involved an imbecile.

He identified the suspect as Irakunda Innocent, adding that the victim, aged 14, (names withheld) was assaulted as she took goats for grazing.

“He first started by giving her a coin of shillings 100 and as she was receiving it, he grabbed the poor vulnerable girl and sexually assaulted her,” he said.

According to Enanga, the father of the victim was alerted to his daughter’s unfortunate predicament by the “cries for help which were coming from the nearby bush”.

“The suspect tried to flee from the scene with the nicker of the victim and, when he was arrested, he claimed that a witch doctor had advised him to perform sexual acts with an imbecile and take the nicker to him if he wanted to get rich,” Enanga said.

Enanga added that the suspect would be charged with aggravated defilement.

Defilement is aggravated in nature if an adult performs sexual intercourse with a very young child (between days old to 14 years). Other circumstances include if the offender (adult) is HIV-positive; is a blood relative to the victim and/or is in authority over the child e.g. a parent, an uncle, aunt etc.

Also considered in the passing of the aggravated defilement sentence is if the offender is a person with authority over the victim such as a teacher or where the victim (child) is a person with a disability or where the offender is a serial offender.

On conviction at the High Court, such a person is liable to suffer death.
