VP Alupo launches Teso ICT training drive

Vice-President Jessica Alupo has launched the 2023-2024 Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training for Teso region in Katakwi district.

During the Tuesday launch, Alupo urged the Teso community to embrace ICT that will ease marketing of their businesses both nationally and internationally.

The Digi Truck Training is being conducted by Huawei, a Chinese Company, in conjunction with the Government through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Developmental (MOGLSD), held at the Booma Grounds in Katakwi district.

The training is meant to empower the locals with computer skills to enable them to market their businesses and also sell their agricultural produce online.

According to Alupo, the youth must get involved in ICT programme as the only source of employment since the world has become a global village.

"The districts of Teso should take advantage of this programme so that the youth who will be the first cohort to benefit from it. This will have multiplier effect in the region because a skill is like a hook which you will have for life, which you can use to transform yourself or give to others," she said.

She urged the beneficiaries to be generous with the skills they are going to gain.

Huawei spokesperson Sooma Mukyala Fauziya said the training is expected to greatly impact knowledge and skills to the locals.

According to her, Huawei has also launched the 2023/2023 ICT competition in Uganda and the company awarded the best students from last year.

The two-month training has started from Katakwi and is to be rolled out to the districts of Amuria, Kapelebyong and Soroti.
