Speaker Among reports back to duty after welcoming twins

Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has said she is thrilled to return to official duties on Monday after welcoming to twin boys on October 17, 2023.

Among, who was dressed in blue and visibly excited, was presented a flower upon arrival at Parliament.

She took to X, formerly Twitter, to say that she returned amid a warm reception from her colleagues and staff at Parliament after some time away on leave.

The Speaker, who is married to the Budiope East MP and the president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations, Moses Magogo, said during her leave, the Almighty God blessed them with “lovely” twins.

“I most sincerely thank you all for your prayers and outpouring of love,” she told the MPs and staff whose cheeks were flushed with excitement as they welcomed her back and praised God for her safe delivery of twins.

She also said she was grateful to her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, whom she referred to as her good brother, for “ably and firmly holding fort”.

“May the Almighty God continue to bestow abundant blessings upon you all,” Among, who also doubles as Bukedea Woman MP, prayed.

She revealed she was expecting while meeting Pope Francis in Rome in August, 2023, and asked him to bless her baby. Pope Francis then proceeded to bless her with a sign of the cross.

She got married to Magogo in August last year in a private ceremony in Kampala. She had earlier officially introduced her fiancé in a closed-door ceremony in Bukedea district.
