One suspect arrested over rape and murder of 36-year old woman in Kikube

Police in Kikuube have arrested one suspect in connection with the rape and brutal murder of a woman in Buhimba sub-county in Kikuube district.

The suspect whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing Police investigations with others still at large are accused of gang-raping and strangling to death Annet Kusemererwa 36, a resident of Kyabatalya cell in Kyabatalya ward, Buhimba town council.

The incident took place on Sunday (January 07) night at around 10pm and the suspect was arrested on Wednesday (January 10).

The deceased was reportedly waylaid by her killers as she was heading home from Buhimba trading centre. The assailants reportedly gang-raped her and later strangled her to death.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the arrest, adding that following the incident, Police intensified their operation to hunt for the suspects and through intelligence-led information, they managed to arrest one suspect
