TotalEnergies president briefs Museveni on Tilenga progress

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday welcomed Nicolas Terraz, the president for exploration and production at TotalEnergies, during a courtesy call at State House-Entebbe.

Terraz, having recently visited the oil exploration sites under the Tilenga project, provided an update on its progress and sought further support from the government to ensure its success.


"I visited the sites at Tilenga and the pipeline. The drilling and pipeline activities are going on very well," Terraz informed President Museveni, highlighting the positive momentum of the project.

He also noted that the project now employs over 8,000 Ugandans, showcasing its contribution to local employment and economic growth.

President Museveni assured Terraz of the government's continued support for the Tilenga project, emphasising its importance for Uganda's economic development.

Museveni expressed confidence in the project's potential to yield positive results for both the country and TotalEnergies.

Accompanying Terraz were key executives from TotalEnergies, including senior vice president Africa Mike Sangster, general manager TotalEnergies EP Uganda Philippe Groueix, Martin Tiffen the managing director EACOP, and Mariam Nampeera the deputy general manager Total Energies EP Uganda.

Also present at the meeting were government officials, including energy minister Ruth Nankabirwa, and finance minister Matia Kasaijja.

The Tilenga project, operated by TotalEnergies, involves the development of six oil fields and the drilling of approximately 400 wells from 31 locations.

The oil extracted will be transported to the Tanzanian port of Tanga via a 1,443 km underground pipeline.
