Rakai woman confesses to killing husband to sustain secret affair with son-in-law

Police in Rakai district have detained a woman and her son-in-law on suspicion of conspiring to murder her husband to facilitate their illicit relationship.

The suspects, Biita Nambogo and Byakatonda, both residents of Nyanga-Kentale village in Kifamba sub-county, are alleged to have killed Hamis Musisi in April last year and dumped his body in the Bukoola River.

Concerns arose when Musisi’s family failed to reach him, as his phone remained switched off for several days. Grace Nanyonyi, Musisi’s sister, recounted how the family approached Nambogo for information about his whereabouts. Initially, Nambogo claimed that Musisi had travelled to Tanzania for land-related matters.

However, months passed with no communication from Musisi, prompting the family to confront Nambogo again. Under pressure, she confessed to his death, leading to her arrest alongside Byakatonda.

Musisi’s family has since camped near the Bukoola River, desperately searching for his remains to provide him with a proper burial. Benon Ssengeye, Kifamba LC III chairperson, described the incident as a tragic result of the forbidden relationship between Nambogo and Byakatonda, which he noted is a cultural taboo.

Abdalatif Sserugo, Nyanga-Kentale LC I defense secretary, revealed that community leaders are closely monitoring the situation while the search for Musisi’s remains continues. He confirmed that the suspects were initially detained at Manya police station before being transferred to Rakai police station for further investigations.

The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with many demanding swift justice for the deceased. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that those responsible will face the full extent of the law.
