Rukungiri woman raped, murdered while returning from bar

The Police in Rukungiri were on Saturday still investigating the gruesome murder of a forty-year-old woman.

It is alleged that Jacklin Kyomukama, a resident of Keitumuro cell, Northern B Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri district was raped before she was strangled.

According to information issued by Kigezi Police region spokesperson Elly Maate, the deceased met her death on her way from a drinking joint.

She was last seen on July 08, 2023, at 10:00pm in a bar at Keitumuro trading centre enjoying a local drink (kabiriti) with others. It is said that her son, Niwamanya Simpson, who was going to Rukungiri stadium for a show also passed near the bar and saw the mother drinking with others, but she did not return home.

However, the next morning her husband, received information that herdsmen had seen the body of his wife in a nearby eucalyptus forest and reported the matter to the Police.

A team from the Police visited the scene and took the body to Rwakabengo Health Centre IIl mortuary for postmortem and later handed over to relatives as inquiries continued.

The case was reported as murder and suspected rape, CRB 937/2023.
