Rubanda man held over killing wife during quarrel
The Police in Rubanda district were Sunday, August 27, 2023, holding a 38-year-old man for the alleged murder of his wife.
It is alleged that Yarid Tukamuhabwa, a prominent businessman in Karengyere trading centre, Rubanda district, lost his cool and hit his wife, Scovia Kobusingye, with a stool during a domestic fight.
Tukamuhabwa was apprehended by neighbours who tried to intervene in the row but arrived too late to save the life of the woman.
The Police in Rubanda have filed the case as murder by assault on CRB 320/2023.
In a statement issued by Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesman, the incident occurred on Friday, August 25, 2023, at around 4:00pm at Karengyere in Muko sub-county.
Police preliminary findings indicate that the couple was engaged in a fight over yet unknown issues, leading to a fight where the suspect hit the wife with a stool on the head and she died instantly.
The Police visited the crime scene and handed over the body to relatives for burial.
“I do not know how much people want us to emphasise that they should not take the law into their own hands but sit on a round table to resolve issues amicably.
“Now the wife is dead, and the man is going to prison; how much are gaining out of such,” Maate said.
He added that upon completion of investigations, the suspect would be arraigned in courts of law to answer charges of murder.
