IGP Ochola launches construction of new Police headquarters

The Inspector General of Police  Okoth Ochola on Thursday  launched the construction of the new State-of-the-art Police headquarters offices at Naguru.  

The Sh77.5billion project is expected to sit on the 1324 square meters land and is projected to be  completed in the year 2025.

The project comes a few months after the Minister for Internal Affairs Retired Major General Kahinda Otafiire  commissioning a 420 housing unit project for Police Officers at Naguru Barracks in Kampala where he pledged full support to improve Police housing condition.

The minister commissioned the project on Thursday 8th December 2022 during the grand opening of the 26th Police Council meeting.

While commissioning the project, he appreciated the efforts of the Police which have improved and promised full support to enable the Force to perform better.

“I’m grateful for your efforts of bringing sanity to the Force. Let us think big, plan, and put in more effort to achieve our mission. Said the Minister at the opening ceremony of the Council meeting.

On the issue of accommodation, Minister Otafiire promised full support to improve the force’s welfare. He pleaded with the management to identify investors who can help develop proper accommodation in the force.

The seven-block apartments commissioned costed  57.1 billion and accommodates 420 Police officers from the rank of Inspector and below. The blocks are also named after the former Inspector General of Police, IGPs that headed the force.

The Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth said the institution faces a big challenge of accommodation and they are doing their best to solve it.

“We have embarked on construction and renovation of office accommodation countrywide. Similar accommodation will be constructed in Entebbe and Jinja this financial year before rolling out to other cities countrywide,” said the IGP.
