Residents Demand Accountability Over Allegedly Substandard Bridge in Arua City

Residents of Yapi Cell in Ayivu West Division, Arua City, are calling for the immediate summoning of a contractor over concerns about the quality of a newly constructed culvert bridge.
The 30 million shilling infrastructure, built over Ania Lower Stream near Christ Church Ediofe, has drawn sharp criticism from locals who allege shoddy workmanship.

Community members claim the bridge, intended to improve connectivity and safety, shows signs of poor construction just months after completion. Visible cracks, uneven surfaces, and erosion concerns have raised fears about its durability, especially during the rainy season.

"We contributed our voices to have this bridge constructed, but what we got is disappointing," said a local resident. "This is taxpayers' money being wasted on substandard work that won't last."

Local leaders have joined residents in demanding answers. Ayivu West Division Chairperson confirmed receiving the complaints and pledged to escalate the matter to Arua City authorities. "We will formally request the contractor to appear before relevant committees and explain these defects," he stated.

The outcry comes as Arua City implements several infrastructure projects. Residents now urge authorities to strengthen oversight on all ongoing and future constructions to ensure value for money and public safety.
Neither Arua City Engineer's office nor the contractor could not be immediately reached for response.

The development highlights growing public scrutiny over infrastructure projects in the region, with communities becoming more vigilant about project quality and accountability.
